Outrageous Imprisonment

Simon Sheppard and Steven Whittle, the 'Heretical Two'

OUTRAGEOUS IMPRISONMENT: Two Britons — Simon Sheppard, a writer and behavioral scientist, and Stephen Whittle, a freelance writer and satirist — languished a year in American jails though they committed no crimes whatever under American law. They fled to the U.S. seeking asylum because they fell afoul of tyrannical anti-free-speech laws in Britain and faced imprisonment merely for expressing their ideas and publishing the ideas of others — such as Robert Crumb cartoons! — on a Web page. If anyone deserves asylum here, they do. The pair, dubbed the Heretical Two, are prime examples of our abandonment of our once-proud tradition of freedom of expression. They’ve now been forcibly returned to Britain, where they face sentencing for their “crimes” on July 10. Before we cast stones at Iran, we need to examine our own societies.

More War Rumblings

MORE WAR RUMBLINGS: It seems that the oligarchs of the so-called “West” (actually, Russia seems to stand for traditional Western values more than America or the EU does these days) not only want to conquer Iran, but to surround and intimidate Russia as well. According to South Ossetian political scientist Irina Kadzhaev, “Georgia’s war against South Ossetia may easily turn into NATO’s war against Russia. This would be a third world war.” And according to Canadian think tank Global Research, American and NATO military men are being trained to regard Russia as “the enemy.”

Four Forces Pushing for War With Iran

Iran's President Ahmadinejad flashes a victory sign after a victory before which even Western polls showed him winning two to one. What is the real source of the post-election chaos?

ACCORDING TO physicist and writer James Miller, the four forces pushing for war with Iran are:

1) ISRAEL (The Israel Lobby is working overtime to get Americans to fight another war on their behalf. The work of the CIA and MI6 is clear in fomenting chaos in Iran and yet another “rainbow-colored revolution” in a country currently without Zionist supervision.);

Alternative Currency: Now a Crime?

A montage of Liberty Dollars of different denominations. The Liberty Dollar may have been the most successful of all U.S. alternative currencies to date. Despite repeated Treasury assurances that their efforts were perfectly legal, the creators of this truly honest metal-backed money found themselves under arrest.

I’VE MENTIONED ALTERNATIVE currencies — usually private efforts to help the local or national economy without resorting to debt, usurious interest, the banks, or the Fed — in a supportive way on this site before.

Recently I learned that the creators of some of the most interesting and successful alternative currencies — the Hawaiian Dala, the California Bear, the Chambersburg Dollar, the Evansville Dollar, the Liberty Dollar, the Peace Dollar, and the Ron Paul Dollar, among others — have been arrested by the FBI (for totally bogus charges under statutes intended to stop counterfeiting). They are Kevin Innes, Bernard von NotHaus, Sarah Bledsoe, and Rachelle Moseley.

PROOF WE ARE ruled and “protected” by dangerous morons can be found in this document, entitled “Crisis Controlled,” from the Virginia State Police (VSP), authored by Trooper John R. Wright.

Not only is the whole essay written on about a fifth-grade level of literacy and intelligence, not only does it characterize anyone, left or right or otherwise, who questions the constitutionality or morality of our current rulers as a “terrorist,” but it wraps itself in smarmy authority-worshipping “patriotism” of the most repellent variety imaginable, which is the opposite of real patriotism.

The Four Freedoms?

The new four freedoms

THE FOUR FREEDOMS?: Corruption rules modern America. It is a truism, mentioned by Mike Gravel among many others, that both parties and their candidates take in considerable sums of money from hedge funds, oil companies, lawyers’ associations, and numerous multinational corporations — to say nothing of the Israel Lobby. But it’s nothing new.

A (much older) friend of mine, who worked for Army intelligence during World War 2, once told me that many Washington insiders routinely referred to FDR’s “Four Freedoms” as “The Rake Off, the Pay Off, the Shakedown, and the Fix.” And so it goes.

Free Speech and the Constitution

SOME PEOPLE — most notably lobbyists for the world’s wealthiest ethnic group — would like to see “speech codes,” which make it a punishable offense to criticize persons who belong to certain “protected classes,” enacted into law in the United States.

These pressure groups have already gotten their way in many European countries, and people have gone to jail and had their lives ruined and their families devastated merely for telling the truth as they saw it — for saying that some racial groups commit a disproportionate amount of crime, for example; or for suggesting that some wartime propaganda stories might be exaggerated.

A Moral Dilemma

Decisionsby Kevin Alfred Strom

WE ARE A SOCIAL species, and no man or woman lives utterly alone and disconnected from his or her fellows. But what do we do when the society we live in does wrong? When it goes so far wrong we find it absolutely morally repugnant? That’s the dilemma posed by a young academic scientist who recently wrote that he loves teaching, but that every university he might work for accepts funding from the federal government, which he believes is immoral. He says:
